The seaside health resort of Grömitz is considered to be one of the oldest health resorts on the Baltic Sea. Its history as a seaside resort goes back to the year of 1813. The sea coast which is in the south direction that helped to choose the name for the place: “Bath on the solar side”.
The seaside health resort of Grömitz is considered, with its about 750,000 overnight stays (information of 2002) and with 7,500 inhabitants, to be the most important Baltic vacation place in Schleswig-Holstein. Grömitz is also distinguished as a resort which is friendly to the families.
While the “older ones” use main street as a shopping centre and attend the internal-urban golf course, the “younger ones” rush at mini-golf, pony horse riding, Go-Cart, Silly Billy Indoor-game-centre, beach railway of “Raving Benno” and climbing ship or wait in the holiday kindergarten for the parents.
For young and old guests equally attractive are the sea water wave pool "Grömitzer Welle" with the wellness centre of "Wellarium" and especially the “Noah's ark” zoo where there are 300 animals and also three "Liger" the mixture of the lion and the tiger which are very rare worldwide.
The yacht harbor with 780 moorings has for its services the "Blaue Flagge" (blue flag, an award for good quality) for several years. It is equally a starting point for ship excursions (also engine and sail boat charters) in one of the most interesting districts of the Baltic Sea and, in addition, there is a union of the yachtsman's harbours of Ostholstein. The pier in Grömitz has the length of 384 meters and is the longest one in whole Schleswig-Holstein.
The seaside health resort of Grömitz unites maritime offers with possibilities for active rest. The Nordic fitness Point is considered as a starting point of all runners and fullers in the area. Two medical centers are specified on illnesses of the respiratory tract, the movement apparatus, skin illnesses, metabolism disturbances as well as immune weakness.
