At the end of the A 1 motorway in the "Vogelfluglinie" direction (a flight of the bird route) to the island of Fehmarn and Denmark is located the provincial town of Oldenburg in Holstein on the Wagrien peninsula. The Wagrien peninsula is located in the Baltic bay and Oldenburg was a significant international trade harbour. But this was about 1300 years ago, when here was founded the former Slavic settlement “Starigard” and than the Slavic Wagri. But the time passed and the bay turned into a very shallow place and the town began losing its significance.

Today Oldenburg is a destination for the vacationers of the numerous surrounding seaside health resorts of the Wagrien peninsula and, above all, from the nearby Weißenhäuser Strand.

The Old Town with its pedestrians-only area offers many shopping possibilities and invites everyone to spend some time in the cafes. The 18-metre-high quay passes through the city of Oldenburg.

The ground monument under the name of "Starigard" was built in 7-th century A.D. by the Slavic settlers and was used as a place of settlement and residence of their dukes. In the harbour museum the guest gets an insight into the early history of Starigard / Oldenburg. The Slavic sailing ship restored in the Polish Wollin stands here beside the restored built Viking's ship.

The sighs of Oldenburg and Holstein.
