Billesholm is known for its mining history, a historic public park, and opportunities to enjoy nature and cycling. Mining History and Historic Sites

Coal mining in Billesholm began in the 1860s. A mining settlement with housing for the growing number of workers developed around the mine. Along the coal deposits discovered there, Billesholm grew into a prominent industrial centre. The town’s history is therefore closely tied to mining and the formation of a community around the mine.

Folkets hus and Folkets Park were established around the turn of the 20th century. Folkets hus was built in 1900; Folkets Park is Sweden’s second-oldest surviving public park. The two sites have distinct historical significance: a specific year of construction is recorded for Folkets hus, while the park stands out among Sweden’s surviving public parks.

Billesholms kyrka is also notable for its architecture: it is Sweden’s first church to house community rooms and the church space in the same building. Plan ahead if you want to visit, as the church is usually closed. Visits can be arranged by calling 042-856 30 or 042-856 50.

Nature and Outdoor Activities in Billesholm

The valley along Möllebäcken, from Haberga to Kungsgården, has an extensive network of trails. It serves as a nearby natural area for the neighbouring parts of Billesholm and Södra Vram. The valley offers a different focus for trip planning than the historic buildings: here, the emphasis is on trails and the natural surroundings.

The Billesholm dog park is located on Kungsgårdsvägen, near Billesholms kungsgård. It is open year-round, and dogs can run free, romp and play there. The park is a specific place to visit for travellers who want to let their dogs run off-leash outdoors.

Cycling and Getting Around Locally

Family cycling tours on Söderåsen start at Folkets Park in Billesholm, where there is ample parking. The TeamAlbert MTB trail is different: it is on private land, where cyclists always have right of way, and is suitable for all ability levels, from beginners to elite riders. When choosing between the options, the family tours’ starting point and available parking differ from the MTB trail’s terrain and range of ability levels.

The Cykelporten till Söderåsen bicycle hub is located at Billesholmsvägen 95. Bicycles can be taken by train to Billesholm or Bjuv stations. These details answer different questions: the address identifies a bicycle hub, while the train information concerns travelling with a bicycle to these stations.

Billesholm also has an outdoor gym. It is next to Jens Billeskolan and right by Multiarenan. Some equipment has been removed for safety reasons; take this limitation into account if you include the gym in your plans.
