When choosing accommodation in Lövestad, it is worth first considering how you plan to spend your vacation: will your stay focus mainly on hiking and the landscape, or also include architecture and local history? The area offers points of interest for both. Hiking trails, a nature reserve, a church and historic buildings can all feature as different priorities in your travel plans.

Hiking between ridges and forest

The Skåneleden offers two differently described stages to help you plan. Stage 9, “Heinge – Lövestads åsar,” is 6 kilometres long. Stage 10, “Lövestads åsar – Vitabäck,” passes through beech forests and pastures; the route is associated with the lady orchid, meadow flax and pasqueflower. The two stages therefore offer different points of reference: Stage 9 is described by its length and endpoints, while Stage 10 is characterised by its landscape and plant life.

The Lövestads åsar Nature Reserve also has a hike of about 1.5 kilometres along a ridge. The return follows the path below the ridge. Its distance offers a separate point of reference alongside the Skåneleden stages. Massastenen lies southeast of the Lövestads åsar campsite.

Those who would also like to explore the area around the village will find the Heinge recreational area five kilometres north of Lövestad. It can be reached on foot via the Skåneleden. This description gives a specific natural area, its distance and the stated walking route, presenting a different option from the hike along the ridge in the nature reserve.

Church, bridge and local history

Lövestad’s present-day church was built between 1854 and 1856 to designs by Carl Georg Brunius. It was constructed in the Neo-Romanesque style, with a T-shaped ground plan; the church interior has a coffered ceiling. The construction period, architectural form and ceiling design each offer a different perspective on the building. Together, these details make the church a notable point of interest for visitors interested in architectural history.

Another historic structure is the 19th-century stone arch bridge, over which Kyrkvägen crosses a stream. It is well preserved. Lövestads kungsgård remains at its original site. Both places add other aspects of the cultural landscape to the church’s architectural history: a bridge over a stream and a manor at its original location.

Railway history is also part of the village’s past. Lövestad station was built north of the church village when the Tomelilla–Eslöv railway line was laid in the 1860s. Nearby, Hallsberg Gård has a collection of unusually shaped stone figures with engraved texts in its garden. Travel plans can thus distinguish between historic buildings in the village and a separate cultural attraction in the surrounding area.

Lövestad is also home to Evert Fornäs’s sculpture park, a public art space. Alongside the older buildings, it offers another cultural focus. Visitors who like to include art and local history when choosing where to stay can combine these interests with the hiking opportunities, without limiting themselves to just one type of outing.

Finding your way around the village

Marknadsplatsen playground is centrally located at the market square on Storgatan in Lövestad. The library is near the school. Visitors can borrow books and films there, as well as order magazines. Östra Färsbadet is an outdoor swimming pool in Lövestad. These three places have clearly distinct functions: the market square, library and outdoor pool offer practical points of reference in the village, without requiring a particular length of stay.

Spiken i Kistan runs a shop in Lövestad; visitors are asked to call before visiting. If you plan to go there, making that call is part of your practical preparations. This recommendation applies to the shop and should be considered separately from the information about hiking trails and cultural sites.
