Neustadt in Holstein
With its medieval town center and industrial harbor, the Baltic seaside resort of Neustadt in Holstein is the largest town on Lübeck Bay. Together with the privately owned Ancora Marina and many smaller operators, Neustadt in Holstein forms the water sports hub of the bay. The neighboring Baltic resorts of Pelzerhaken and Rettin also benefit from their southerly location. Together with Neustadt, they offer a total of 10 kilometers of beach.
The town’s international outlook is the result of developments after the war, when the entire coast welcomed many refugees from the former German territories in the east. Neustadt calls itself a European Town and celebrates a European Folklore Festival every three years.
From 1996 to 2017, Neustadt was the filming location for the popular ZDF series “Küstenwache” (“Coast Guard”).
Pelzerhaken is a true surfing paradise, with a surf school and a shallow-water area that is also ideal for children to swim in.
The Baltic seaside resort of Rettin is characterized by the rural idyll of thatched-roof fishermen’s houses. A beach sauna at the naturist beach is a highlight of the steep coastline and bathing beach.
Many hotels in the Baltic resorts of Neustadt in Holstein, Pelzerhaken and Rettin have expanded their offerings to include wellness services, and several campsites are located along the coast in all three resorts.
