Pori / Björneborg
The city of Pori (Swedish: Björneborg) lies in southwestern Finland on the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia. Founded in 1558, the city is now 20 kilometers from the coast, even though each time it was rebuilt after being destroyed, it was moved closer to the shore. This is due to the land uplift that is still taking place there following the last Ice Age. Pori lies at the mouth of the Kokemäenjoki River. Off the coast of Pori is a popular holiday area with a deeply indented rocky shoreline and numerous islands.
