Darłowo (Rügenwalde)
The small town of Darłowo (Rügenwalde) lies three kilometres south of the mouth of the Wieprza (Wipper) River, where it flows into the Baltic Sea. The seaside resort of Darłówko (Rügenwalde-Bad) lies just outside the town, on both sides of the Wipper estuary. Construction of the castle of the Dukes of Pomerania-Wolgast began in the 14th century. In 1814, Prussia’s first seaside resort was established at Rügenwaldermünde (later Rügenwalde-Bad). For a time, the harbour was home to Pomerania’s largest shipping company, with more than 40 ships.

Darłowo’s historic buildings escaped wartime destruction and are now popular destinations for day trips during a Baltic holiday. The Gothic Church of St Mary, with its 60-metre tower, dates from the 14th century and houses the sarcophagi of King Eric I of Pomerania.
Darłówko (Rügenwalde-Bad)
The Baltic seaside resort of Rügenwalde-Bad has been Prussia’s first seaside resort since 1814. To this day, it benefits from its fine sandy beach and attractive setting on both sides of the Wipper estuary. The lighthouse is 22 metres high; its light reaches 30 kilometres out over the Baltic Sea and also guides the many recreational boaters on their way.
Alongside numerous restaurants of all kinds, hotels, guesthouses, a campsite and various holiday-home complexes offer plenty of accommodation for a holiday on Poland’s Baltic coast in Darłowo. The town’s seawater bathing complex is open to visitors.
