Hotels on Usedom
The Baltic Sea island of Usedom is considered Germany’s most beautiful Baltic island, even though it ranks second in size after Rügen. The first seaside resort on Usedom was established in 1824 in what is now the Polish town of Świnoujście, followed just a year later by Heringsdorf. Today, the Baltic Sea island of Usedom has ten seaside resorts, each with its own size and character. From the very beginning, the island’s seaside resorts were known as Berlin’s bathing beach, since the German capital was only a few hours away by train from the late 19th century onward. Affluent residents of nearby Szczecin, too, helped fuel the boom in holidaymakers visiting Usedom. As a result, numerous hotels were built.

A nature-focused hotel stay
Usedom’s natural surroundings offer exceptional variety, and the island also has numerous attractions. The scenic countryside inland, known locally as the Achterland, has now become home to many comfortable hotels and is no longer just an insider tip. Nevertheless, most hotels are still concentrated in the island’s ten seaside resorts, from Karlshagen to Ahlbeck. In the scenic Achterland, hotels and guesthouses cater to a wide range of guest needs.
Spa architecture
The lovingly and meticulously restored villas, along with newly built ones in the style of traditional spa architecture, have a very special charm. Many hotels and guesthouses use them as their premises. Turrets, bay windows and balustrades evoke the era when seaside bathing on the Baltic coast first flourished. Most of these buildings have been preserved and restored, often with modern extensions, and their interiors offer a level of comfort that meets international standards. A stay at a hotel on the Baltic Sea island of Usedom guarantees a comfortable, eventful and, at the same time, relaxing holiday by the sea.
