Ebberup between Klint, Lake and Culture

Ebberup can be explored through a varied sequence of landscapes, cultural sites and leisure destinations. At Sønderby Klint, you can experience an approximately 3 km-long stretch of coast with hilly terrain and a highest point of almost 30 metres. At the same time, deposits from three glaciers dating from the Weichselian glaciation can be seen there. When planning a walk, the approximately three kilometres and the nearly 30-metre-high point mark a clearly defined section of coast and provide a concrete spatial reference for route planning at the Klint. Sønderby Klint and Sønderby Lake

At Sønderby Lake, a permitted fishing spot on the platform is combined with a marked section of shoreline. There are benches at the fishing platform. You can park at Sønderby Church or along the roadside next to the lake. At Sønderby Klint, tables and benches are available at a car park, where you can eat food you have brought with you. Anyone wishing to fish at Sønderby Lake can choose the platform or the marked section of shoreline; the benches are located at the platform. At the Klint, on the other hand, the tables and benches are located at the car park.

Sønderby Church between History and Remembrance

Sønderby Church in Ebberup dates back to an original Romanesque church from the 13th century. This historical connection is linked to a documented event from the 20th century: On 26 May 1939, the von Trapp family sang at Dagmar Dreyer’s wedding in Sønderby Church. In addition to its architectural history, the site therefore also has a special connection to the region’s culture of remembrance.

Hagenskov Estate and the View of the Castle

The present-day Hagenskov Estate was built in 1775 in the new Neoclassical style by its owner, Niels Ryberg, under the direction of city architect G.E. Rosenberg. Hagenskov Estate Castle was protected as a Class A national monument in 1968. In 1973, the entire Hagenskov Estate, including all associated land, was fully protected. The present complex therefore has an architectural history dating back to 1775.

Hagenskov Estate Castle can be viewed from the public road that runs through the estate. For viewing purposes, a distinction must be made between the public road and a reception by prior arrangement. Otherwise, there is no public access; visitors are received by prior arrangement. The public road and the reception by prior arrangement are therefore two separate ways of viewing the castle. The suggested route “Rundt om Hagenskov” passes through Ebberup to Sønderby Church, thereby establishing another connection between the landscape, the estate and the church site.
