Sandager Næs Beach combines shallow bathing water with a bathing jetty and wide views across the Little Belt towards Bågø and Brandsø. Sandager thus presents itself as a destination where maritime landscapes and enjoyable swimming experiences can be combined with excursions in the surrounding area.

Beach, Water and Elevations

The route from Sandager to Sandager Næs Beach leads via Baunevej and then Ved Klinten. In the immediate vicinity of Sandager, the beach is one of the municipality of Assens's six bathing beaches in total. Those who also take practical details into account when planning their day will find a toilet with running water there, open all year round.

Immediately south of Emtekær Nor on West Funen, an almost 4-hectare beach area was protected in 1967; it is intended to remain open to bathers. Sandager Næs Beach also has a shelter site with a traditional shelter made of logs.

Baunet rises more than 30 metres above sea level and can be reached via a steep stone staircase or a small natural hiking trail. Below Baunet, there are three table-and-bench sets, a barbecue and a small playground. The varying terrain offers your plans a mix of proximity to the coast, short outdoor stops and stretches of path with clearly changing elevations.

Church, Ceramics and Local History

Sandager Church preserves several distinctive historical details. The church contains a Madonna figure carved by Claus Berg at the beginning of the 16th century. The late Gothic wall paintings date from around 1490 to 1500 and were created by the Fyn lily master workshop. During a later renovation, the tower and the north porch were built from monk-and-nun bricks. The spire was installed by the Danish Lighthouse and Buoy Service as a sea mark.

EK Keramik is also located directly in Sandager: the workshop is at Torupvej 7 in Sandager, 5610 Assens. Pottery courses on modelling, wheel throwing and slab-building techniques are offered there. If there is sufficient interest, family days for children accompanied by adults can also be arranged.

Routes with Coastal and Farm Impressions

The 11th stage of the Baltic Sea Route runs north from Assens to Middelfart along beautiful, winding roads near the coast. At Sandager, it is possible to take a detour to the Torup Bakkegård farm shop. The suggested “Culture & Nature” route passes Baunet; the hill has a shelter and a fire pit.

In the wider area around Sandager, Puge Mølle is located in an old half-timbered building. Torup Bakkegård offers fruit and vegetables grown on the farm, as well as drinks, meat, cheese and other specialities.

If you would like to consider another directly linked destination in addition to Sandager, you can also visit Føns.
