The “Life in the city” exhibition at TID – Museum for Odense is located in the historic red Møntergården building from the 17th century. The TID exhibition at Nonnebakken presents the most significant finds from the Viking ring fortress. The exhibition is located in TID’s main building and is accessible by lift.

Personal urban history also has a firm place in Odense: The museum experience at H.C. Andersens Hus includes the small yellow house in Hans Jensens Stræde where H.C. Andersen was born in 1805. In Odense, you can therefore encounter different historical perspectives, from the Viking Age to the stories associated with a famous Danish poet.

Interactive Experiences for Different Interests

TID’s children’s museum is designed as an interactive exhibition for visitors of all ages, where they can play, touch and experiment. In the food section, visitors explore what a boy in the Stone Age needed to obtain food and what he ate. This makes the historical themes accessible not only through observation but also through visitors’ own actions. At The Funen Village, you can also receive a brief introduction to an 18th-century rural community and its sustainable, circular way of life. On selected days during the season, visitors can meet volunteers there who bring history to life.

On Foot, by Bike and on the Water

Odense offers scenic walks, running routes, themed tours and digital audio walks through green oases and city districts. Odense also has more than 560 kilometres of cycle paths. The options therefore range from self-guided routes to thematically guided explorations, without requiring you to commit to just one way of getting around.

The Odense Å river runs through the city centre and provides access to experiences on the water. In addition, Stige Ø is a recreational area with hiking and mountain biking trails, playgrounds and shelters. Depending on your preferred daily rhythm, you can therefore combine city life, historic sites, interactive museum experiences and activity in green surroundings in Odense.
