Beach at Vindeby Harbor

Karla's Plads is Vindeby’s own beach, adjoining the harbor. The place therefore has a clear connection to the water, without requiring the beach and harbor to be viewed as separate areas.

Ferry Village with a Preserved Harbor Setting

Vindeby was both a ferry port and a village, originally established as an offshoot of Nyby. Vindeby’s former ferry harbor is now a marina. The large white ferry yard still stands at the harbor today. The transition from its former ferry function to today’s marina is just as much a part of the place as the preserved ferry yard. In this way, Vindeby’s maritime past remains connected to the present at specific locations.

The Archipelago Trail through the Old Ferry Village

The Archipelago Trail runs through the old ferry village of Vindeby. The section from Svendborg via Troense to Rudkøbing is 26 km long. This distance gives you a clear sense of scale when planning your trip. At the same time, Vindeby remains present along this route not merely as a place name, but as an old ferry village through which the Archipelago Trail passes.

Through the Svendborg Sound on the M/S Helge

A trip on the M/S Helge takes about two hours and travels through the Svendborg Sound. During the trip, it is possible to board and disembark at several points. From the green area, there is access to a landing stage for the Sundfarten M/S Helge service. A Specific Chapter in Ferry History

Denmark’s first steam ferry, the Fritz Juel, was built in 1872 and operated on the Vindeby route. The history of the Vindeby route can therefore be traced back to the ferry’s construction year, 1872.
