Water Landscapes and Nature in Enånger

The Enångersån represents the nature-oriented side of Enånger. The river has numerous sea trout populations. At the same time, the Enångersån is designated as an area of national interest for nature conservation. It features extensive, valuable running-water biotopes with high-quality habitats and valuable fauna. The wetland around Ängasjön is also one of the area's special natural features. A wetland covering approximately 25 hectares was created in the drained Ängasjön lake in Enånger. There is also a birdwatching site at the mouth of the Enångersån at nearby Borka brygga. It is particularly suitable for observing resting waders in spring and late summer. Those who want to take waterways and nature observation into account alongside culture when choosing a location will find several clearly distinct themes here.

Churches and Cultural History

Enånger offers two churches with different historical chapters. Enångers kyrka was completed in 1852. On April 27, 1879, it was damaged by fire and rebuilt by 1881. During the year, the church is also used for concerts, so alongside its architectural history it is connected with cultural events. Enångers gamla kyrka, in turn, has a varied history of use. In 1859, it became a museum that primarily preserved older ecclesiastical art, and in 1952 it was reconsecrated as a church. Its use as a church and the older art preserved there belong to different periods of its history. Enångers gamla kyrka is open for services between Midsummer and the end of August. This time restriction is important for planning a church visit, without saying anything about other forms of accessibility.

Hedningahällan: Footpath, Rock Formation and Early Coastal History

Hedningahällan is a Stone Age settlement in Enånger and combines archaeology with a walk. A two-kilometre footpath leads to Hedningahällan; the walk to the Stone Age settlement takes approximately 35 minutes. At the destination is a distinctive rock formation measuring approximately 25 by 25 metres. About 4,000 years ago, Hedningahällan was an island in the coastal sea. This makes it possible to explore both the Stone Age settlement and the area's earlier landscape history at a single destination.

Borka brygga and Maritime Traces

Nearby Borka developed into an outer harbour for Enånger. At Borka brygga is a landing stage that is considered to have the only preserved original roof of a steamboat landing stage in Sweden. The museum at Borka brygga covers the history of fishing and boatbuilding in the Enånger area. Together with the birdwatching site at the mouth of the Enångersån, Borka brygga is therefore a place where maritime history and nature observation stand directly side by side.
