Furuvik on the Baltic Sea: Amusement Park, Swimming Spots and Harbour

Furuvik between the Baltic coast and family experiences

Furuvik is located on the Gävle coast along the Baltic Sea. The town combines several swimming spots and walking trails with Furuviksparken, an animal and amusement park with a water park for the whole family. This makes both days by the water and varied park experiences central to choosing a location. Furuviksparken opened on 17 August 1900 and is therefore also part of the town’s history.

Furuviksparken: Water, rides and animals

Äventyrspoolen is a separate highlight within the park. It features a large swimming pool, two water slides, a children’s pool and an adventure tower. In addition to the swimming area, anyone looking for special rides will find Sweden’s only interactive dark ride in Furuvik. There is also a roller coaster that travels both forwards and backwards. This combination makes the park a destination where water experiences, animal encounters and rides can be enjoyed together.

At the animal presentations, you can gain insight into the daily life of an animal keeper. You can also book an animal experience that brings you particularly close to the animals. Pelle Svanslös and his friends are also part of the park’s programme: the characters offer encounters and colourful performances. The range at Furuviksparken therefore extends from observable animal moments to stage and park experiences.

Swedish history on its own island

A distinct historical feature is located on an island of its own within Furuviksparken. In a former military bunker, you can experience Swedish history. The place is therefore shaped not only by its present-day attractions but also preserves an explicitly historical setting. For a break between park and coastal experiences, Furuvik Havskrog serves fish, seafood and other specialities.

Swimming spots, walking trails and the guest harbour

Furuvik has several swimming spots, located both by the sea and by a lake. There are also walking trails, so exploring the town is not limited to the amusement park. The maritime character is particularly visible at Furuvik Gästhamn: a 145-metre-long breakwater made of stone protects the harbour. The guest harbour has room for around 20 to 25 boats, and boats can moor there.

Getting to Furuvik

Furuvik can be reached by train, bus, bicycle, car, taxi or boat. The train access is particularly convenient: the platform is located directly in front of the main entrance to Furuviksparken. Bus route 501 runs from Gävle to the “Furuvik” stop. If you are travelling by bicycle, you can use the paved and illuminated cycle path that runs from Gävle to Furuviksparken. By boat, you can moor at Furuvik Gästhamn.

Which location is most important depends on whether you primarily want to experience the park’s attractions, the coast, the water, or Furuvik’s maritime and historical side.
