Sandviken in Gävleborg offers a range of reasons to stay: contemporary art, sound art in the urban landscape, sporting events or a visit for a swim. When looking for a hotel, holiday apartment or holiday home, it helps to first identify the actual event venue or leisure activity you have in mind. The attractions are not all necessarily located right next to the same accommodation.

Kulturcentrum and the Soundwalk in the town centre

Kulturcentrum is centrally located in Sandviken. Its cultural network includes, among other things, a library, a school of arts, Konsthallen and the children's literature centre Litteraturhuset Trampolin. The art gallery presents contemporary art in a variety of forms throughout the year. Guided tours, workshops and cultural events are offered alongside the exhibitions; participation depends on the specific programme.

Soundwalk Sandviken is a permanent sound art installation with a walk of about 40 minutes through parts of the local cultural landscape. Visitors can borrow headphones and an MP3 player or listen on their own mobile phone. Check the current borrowing arrangements or mobile access before making firm plans for the walk.

The tourist information centre is also located in Kulturcentrum/Folkets Hus. It provides information about attractions, accommodation and events, making it a practical point of contact for further planning once you are there.

Choose the right arena for your event

Ferrum Arena is located in the Jernvallen area and is used for sports and cultural events. Göransson Arena is also a multipurpose arena; its stated uses include concerts, art exhibitions, trade fairs and conferences. The two names are therefore not interchangeable.

If you are travelling to attend a ticketed event, compare the venue, date and accommodation address directly. A general reference such as “near the arena” is not enough to identify the location when there is more than one event venue. No specific concert or match is announced here for an unconfirmed date.

Parkbadet or Hedåsbadet on Storsjön?

Parkbadet has a leisure pool, a 25-metre pool and whirlpools. These are listed facilities at the public leisure centre, not guaranteed pools at every hotel in Sandviken. Check opening hours and conditions of use separately for your planned visit.

Hedåsbadet, by contrast, is a bathing area on Storsjön with a sandy beach, bathing jetty, boat spaces and caravan pitches. The focus here is on spending time by the lake. The listed boat or caravan spaces are neither confirmation of a reservation nor evidence that other accommodation has private bathing access.

Add culture and excursions to your plans

Sandvikens kyrka was inaugurated on 29 November 1931 and offers another point of cultural and historical interest. If you prefer cycling, the local tourist information lists routes with varying levels of difficulty. Choose a specific route based on your experience and equipment rather than assuming all routes are suitable for everyone.

For nature and outdoor activities, Naturkartan Gästrikland brings together information from Sandviken, Gävle, Ockelbo and Hofors. The digital guide therefore covers the wider region: not every destination listed there is in Sandviken itself. Make sure such excursions fit the location and confirmed facilities of your booked accommodation.
