Klintehamn: Hiking Trails, Harbor and Historic Sites
Hiking trails, coast and harbor shape the different sides of Klintehamn. Here you can explore an approximately 8 km pilgrimage route with herbs and birdlife, discover historical church and manor details, or combine active pursuits around climbing, running and mountain biking. The differences between the trails are also clear: the Pilgrimsleden KlinteâFröjel focuses on nature, while the Klinte and Fröjel Hembygdsled combines nature and cultural experiences along the coast.
Hiking between church, forest and coast
The Pilgrimsleden KlinteâFröjel is approximately 8 km long and runs through a beech forest near the church of Klinte. With a little luck, you may find the rare orchid greater butterfly-orchid (Storsyssla) there. The trail is also rich in herbs and birdlife. The Klinte and Fröjel Hembygdsled is a nature and cultural hiking trail running along the scenic coast between the church of Fröjel and Klintehamn. Along the way, it passes several historic sites and memorials. The trail also crosses pastures with grazing animals; dogs must therefore be kept on a leash.
Klinte Church and VÀrsÀnde Manor
Klinte Church offers several historical layers. The present building was constructed in the 12th and 13th centuries. The sacristy, chancel and nave were replaced with Gothic components in the 14th century. The painted chancel vault was added to the church around 1270, while the triumphal cross was made in the 15th century. This means that a visit can be understood not only through the age of the building, but also through individual surviving furnishings.
Another historic site is VÀrsÀnde, an 18th-century manor. The property has four smaller rooms.
Climbing, running and cycling
Just outside Klintehamn is the Högt & LĂ„gt Gotland adventure park. It has six obstacle courses at different heights and with different levels of difficulty. The park can be reached by bus route 10 to the âVarvsholmâ stop; from there, it is a five-minute walk to the park. A ticket for Högt & LĂ„gt is valid for three hours. During this time, you can climb on the courses as much as you like.
The Klintehamn motionsomrĂ„de complements this selection with two clearly designated routes. The illuminated 2.5 km running and walking route is called âBarkanâ. There is also a signposted 5 km mountain bike trail designed for both younger and older cyclists. The activities therefore range from a short walk to a longer mountain bike route.
Harbor area and other places
The harbor area of Klintehamn includes, among other things, the fishing village of Klintehamn and the transition to Varvsholm. The same broader destination area also includes Ljugarn, StÄnga, NÀr, FÄrösund, Sanda, Slite, Vamlingbo and Romakloster.
