Water landscape at Mossjön

Mossjön in Abild is located along Route 150 between Falkenberg and Torup. The lake is framed by hills and trees. Several bays and islands break up the water surface and give the shoreline varied shapes. Open stretches of water lie alongside more intricately structured sections. The wooded slopes form the landscape’s backdrop, while bays and islands alter the course of the shoreline. Depending on the section, either expansive views across the water or more finely structured shoreline forms shape the appearance of the lake.

Fishing is possible at Mossjön with a fishing permit. Ifiske offers four boats for hire. The lake is rich in fish; its fish population includes plentiful pike and perch. The permit applies to fishing, while the four rental boats offer a separate way to travel on the lake. At Mossjön, both the fish population and the various ways of spending time on the water are therefore central attractions.

Church and cemetery

Abilds kyrka acquired its present appearance between 1665 and 1675. This date refers to the church’s current appearance and not generally to the complete construction of the church building. The church contains the Thottska gravkammaren and the Lilliehöökska gravkoret. These two named burial chambers are historic elements of the church interior and distinguish the church space from the separately described cemetery grounds.

Abilds kyrkogård is enclosed by a stone wall and laid out as an open, grass-covered cemetery. Two gravel paths lead from the gates to the church. They cross the open lawn, while the stone wall encloses the grounds on the outside. This makes the paths leading to the church, the enclosure, and the landscaped area identifiable as separate elements of the cemetery.

Hilly landscape, forest, and lake

Sjöred nature reserve is located on a slope in Falkenberg Municipality beside Mossjön. It consists of an old beech forest that grows down the slope towards the water. The beech forest and the adjacent water area form two distinct landscape elements: Sjöred lies on the slope, while Mossjön beside it shapes the water landscape.

The Skattagård nature reserve lies in the immediate surroundings of the destination. It can only be reached on foot via the Hallandsleden, which passes through its northern section. Access is therefore limited to the named trail and the northern part of the nature reserve.

The landscape of Abilds socken changes depending on the direction. Flat land characterizes the area to the southwest. To the north and east, the landscape is hilly and forested. Today, huge rhododendron bushes stand in the park of Hjulebergs gods in Abilds socken. They form part of the park’s present appearance and add a clearly named park feature to the landscape.
