Albertslund between forests, the Viking Age and culture
More than 60% of Albertslund’s area is covered by forests and green spaces. Cycle paths connect residential areas, villages and green parks. Nature and exercise are therefore just as much a part of the local landscape as culture, history and various places to visit.
Other destinations: Helsingør, Herlev Municipality, Vallensbæk, Brøndby Municipality, Frederikssund, Tårnby Municipality, Furesø Municipality and Allerød Municipality.
Culture
Vikingelandsbyen is a reconstructed Viking Age setting where visitors can experience how people lived at the time. Haralds bro is a 700-metre-long reconstructed road and bridge route from the same period.
At Herstedøster Church, the 9-metre-long Romanesque nave was built in the 12th century from split fieldstones. The Late Gothic tower dates from the 15th century.
A later work made from recycled wood is the sculpture “Thomas på Bjerget”. It stands on a mountainside in Kongsholmparken in Albertslund and is part of the project “De seks glemte kæmper” by artist Thomas Dambo.
MusikTeatret Albertslund offers music, theatre, comedy, shows and dance. It also has two cinemas showing current films on every day of the week. Forbrændingen presents concerts and events spanning a broad range of genres, including rock, jazz, pop, metal and hip-hop.
Nature
Naturcenter Herstedhøje and the surrounding area are easily accessible to wheelchair users. On the first working day of each month, it is possible to drive to the top of Herstedhøje by car, bus or mobility vehicle for people with disabilities from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The Vikingelandsbyen grounds can be visited every day of the week and throughout the year. Outside teaching hours, the Vikingelandsbyen houses are closed; however, the grounds remain open and free for visitors to the forest.
Naturcenter Herstedhøje can be reached by S-train to Albertslund Station and then by bus.
Activities
The mountain bike course at Hyldager Bakker in Kongsholmparken in Albertslund is 1.2 km long and of moderate difficulty. It includes a short technical section for practising cornering and pumping techniques, aimed at children and beginners. The route length, difficulty level and proportion dedicated to technical riding provide concrete points of comparison for planning the day.
ToftegĂĄrden is open to visitors every day. There, they can see horses, sheep, chickens, rabbits and other animals up close.
The Friluftsbadet Badesøen outdoor swimming pool has a children’s pool, a swimming pool and pools with slides. The grounds also include volleyball courts, ball courts, a playground and a café area.
