Allerød Municipality between Lakes, Bogs and History
Allerød Municipality takes you through a landscape of forests, lakes, bogs and dry grasslands. Several natural areas are protected or designated as nature reserves; some are home to rare habitat types as well as rare animals and plants.
Nature and Landscape
Allerød Sø and Kattehale Mose together form a contiguous, protected natural area with pastures, lakes, peat bogs, grasslands and wooded areas. Many orchids can be seen in this area in spring and summer. Tokkekøb Hegn is a diverse landscape covering 631 hectares, with old plantations, hills, bogs and lakes.
Bastrup Sø is part of a system of valleys and ridges formed by meltwater, extending from Furesø to Buresø. Buresø lies in a tunnel valley where the municipalities of Allerød, Frederikssund and Egedal meet. One section of Bastrup Sø is designated as a quiet zone to promote the well-being of animals and plants.
Trails and Bathing Spots
Friluftsguiden offers hiking and cycling routes throughout Allerød Municipality. The Kløverstierne in Lillerød and Lynge feature routes with example lengths of 2.5 km, 5 km, 7.5 km and 10 km. The different route lengths allow for comparisons based on distance. Lynge Grusgrav is accessible via good paths for walks in hilly terrain.
Passengers on the Blovstrød Banen can get off at Oscar Jensens Bro and walk around Allerød Sø. Buresøbadet is a larger bathing spot with a bathing jetty. Karlenes Badested is a smaller bathing spot without a lifebuoy.
History and Village Character
The well-preserved Dæmpegårdsdysse is a megalithic tomb dating from around 3400 BC. Bastrup Tårnet, also known as Bastrup Ruin, is a medieval ruin on Bastrup Sø. The tower dates from the 12th century and is among the largest structures in Northern Europe from that period.
The preserved Blovstrød Teglværk complex includes Remisen, a pottery with three brick kilns, and a carpentry workshop. Blovstrød Gadekær is a culturally and historically protected village center with a village pond, pollarded poplars, individual deciduous trees, as well as old farms, a church and a folk school. Blovstrød Gadekær and the associated village land are open to the public; there are several benches on the grounds.
Culture and Events
The LAFAK Archive is located in the historic Kirkehavegaard in Allerød. LAFAK collects local historical source material about the region's past and makes it publicly accessible. Mungo Park is permanently based in Allerød, where it develops and presents new stage stories throughout the year.
Mungo Park is a three-minute walk from Allerød Station. The entire Mungo Park is accessible without barriers from the car park to the seats in the auditorium and has an accessible toilet and a lift. Allerød Bio is a cinema run by an association, showing premiere films and special screenings such as Babybio, Seniorbio and Opera Bio.
Allerød Library is a cultural meeting place with events, lectures and exhibitions. Kunstmarked på Øen is an annual event where local artists exhibit and sell paintings, ceramics, jewellery and other works. Lynge Byfest combines a flea market with musical entertainment, a tombola, local refreshments and a further festive atmosphere; offerings include hot sandwiches, grilled sausages, beer and homemade cake.
