Historic Sites and Danish Culture

Frederiksberg Church was built in 1734 by the architect Felix Dusant. Its Dutch inspiration is evident in its eight roof sections and slender spire; the interior is influenced by the Dutch Renaissance. The church is also used for concerts.

Frederiksberg Palace was built between 1699 and 1735 and served intermittently as the royal family's summer residence until the mid-19th century. Together with the associated Frederiksberg Palace Chapel, the palace houses, among other things, ceiling paintings, an elegant marble bathroom with a secret access staircase and the princesses' pancake kitchen.

Bakkehuset is an authentic house from the Danish Golden Age. Kamma and Knud Lyne Rahbek owned it from 1802 to 1830 and opened their home to the writers, influential figures and scientists of their time. At Møstings Hus, built in 1800, professional artists develop site-specific exhibition projects of contemporary art. STORM offers entertaining insights into the significance of Danish humour and satire – historically and to this day.

Cisternerne also broadens the cultural spectrum: the former water reservoirs lie beneath the green area of Søndermarken Park. The underground spaces house a venue for contemporary art; the changing exhibitions are designed to create an immersive experience in this unique setting. STORM, Bakkehuset, Møstings and Cisternerne are so close to one another that they can be reached on foot.

Gardens, Wildlife and Unique Experiences

Several gardens and parks are available for more tranquil nature experiences. More than 6,000 different plants grow in the garden at Landbohøjskolen, which can be explored on foot. Søndermarken is used for jogging, walking dogs and strolling through the hilly, wooded landscape. There are wild plants, long meadow-like grass and owls in the old trees.

In Frederiksberg Garden, the Chinese Pavilion was built in 1799 as a royal tea house. Boat trips are offered there in summer; the rowing service is operated by Svendsen's Boat Service (Svendsens BÃ¥dfart).

Copenhagen Zoo offers insights into animals, nature and the protection of species and natural habitats, and is home to more than 4,000 animals from around the world. The Leopard Trail is 160 metres long and the longest of its kind in Europe.
