Furesø Municipality between water, forest and history
Furesø Municipality can be explored through water, forest and tangible traces of the past. The starting point is the Baadfahrt: in the early 1890s, a regular scheduled service began on Lyngby Sø, Bagsværd Sø and Furesøen, and has since operated there regularly.
Water and paths
Furesøbad has good access facilities; you can also reach the water there by wheelchair. Non-motorised water sports are permitted for everyone on Furesø, including canoeing, kayaking, rowing boats, dinghy sailing and windsurfing.
There are different scales of walks and hikes to choose from. The “Stemmer fra Furesø” podwalk is approximately 1.5 km long and takes about half an hour on foot. The unmarked “Furesø rundt” hiking route is 22.4 km long and runs partly along the lakeshore and partly on public roads. The marked “Furesø og Nørreskov” hiking trail leads through the steep slopes of Nørreskoven, down to the shore of Furesø and past old trees and beautiful viewpoints.
Fishing in Furesøen is generally freely permitted. However, eels may not be landed, and self-catching devices such as traps are prohibited. People between the ages of 18 and 65 need a fishing licence. Possible catches include zander, perch, pike, carp and crucian carp.
Nature
Furesø is characterised by a green belt of trees along the shore; in some places, steep slopes and distinctly hilly terrain stand out.
Along the entire Nørreskoven coast on Furesø, there are landing places with fire pits at regular intervals. You may camp there for a single night. Wild camping according to the 1-2-3 rule is also permitted in Nørreskoven by Furesø.
A 26 km mountain bike route runs through Nørreskoven, Frederiksdal Storskov, Bøndernes Hegn, Hareskovene and Jonstrup Vang. Another mountain bike route in Nørreskoven is 4.2 km long, marked in red and signposted with mountain bike pictograms. The Hareskovene mountain bike system includes, among other things, a 5.7 km course in Nørreskoven starting at Frederiksborgvej.
The certified Mølleåen Nature Park covers 50 km², has an extensive network of paths and extends across the municipalities of Egedal, Furesø, Allerød and Frederikssund, as well as the area of Naturstyrelsen Østsjælland.
In Farum, the S-train station provides access to the area; from there, it is approximately a 1 km walk to the northern end of Nørreskoven.
Culture and history
The former Flyvestation Værløse site preserves historical traces and experiences from the German occupation and the Cold War.
The Immigrantmuseet covers Danish immigration history over a period of 500 years. It is considered Denmark’s only museum of its kind.
Mosegaarden in Værløse dates back to the late 18th century. At the Gadekærshuset at Mosegaarden, you can book an appointment to bake bread in the old stone oven.
At Cornelen, guided tours of the former merchant’s house are available. Cornelen is furnished as a typical rural village general store in the style of the 1930s. The shop sells old-fashioned sweets such as rock candy and Bismarckklumpen, as well as toys; the café serves coffee and tea.
At Den Gamle Smedje, visitors can experience the forge, anvil and traditional crafts.
