Gentofte: Nature, Parks and Culture
Gentofte Sø is Gentofte's largest natural area. It is used for exercise, play, recreation and nature experiences. The walking trail around the lake is approximately 4 kilometers long.

Nature and Trails
The natural setting includes Brobækmose, with wild orchids, a diverse birdlife and changing landscapes of forest, marsh and bog. In Brobæk Mose by Gentofte Sø, a treetop hide provides views of lakes that are otherwise hidden.
Four cycle routes and a heart-shaped route run through Gentofte and near major and minor attractions. The Park Routes cycle route passes by or through numerous green spaces and parks in Gentofte Municipality. For planning purposes, the approximate lake circuit and the various cycling and cultural offerings can be displayed side by side in different formats.
Charlottenlund Palace Park was laid out in the romantic style; Charlottenlund Forest features large and small lawns connected by numerous small paths.
Coast and History
Charlottenlund Fort was built as part of Copenhagen's sea fortifications. Charlottenlund Beach Park has been a public park since 1932 and is used for sunbathing and summer visits. The beach park has public toilets and a kiosk; from the bathing jetty, the water is accessible by wheelchair.
Culture and Historic Places
The Øregaard Museum presents changing special exhibitions of Danish and international art. Its collection covers 200 years of Danish art from 1750 to 1950. The building was originally constructed from 1806 to 1808 as a country residence for the merchant and shipowner Johannes Søbøtker (1777–1854) and his family.
Garderhøjfortet is a historic fort that has been renovated and is now open to everyone as an educational center. The interactive exhibitions allow visitors to train like soldiers in the First World War, send Morse messages and operate a functioning twin turret.
Bernstorff Palace dates from 1765 and is one of Denmark's earliest Neoclassical buildings. Bernstorff Palace is open to the public, as is Bernstorff Palace Gardens. The garden was laid out in the French Rococo style in the late 1760s and features large grass areas surrounded by Danish forest.
Surrounding Area and Contemporary Culture
In the immediate vicinity of Gentofte, Bellevue Teatret stands in Klampenborg. Designed by Arne Jacobsen, the theater dates from 1936 and offers guided tours presenting its history.
The collection of the Gentofte Fire Museum traces the development of the fire service from the mid-19th century to the present day and includes Northern Europe's oldest motorized fire engine built in Denmark, dating from 1919.
Tranen is Gentofte Municipality's exhibition venue for contemporary art and is located in Gentofte Main Library. Tranen presents new, young and experimental artists from the Danish and international contemporary art scene. The exhibitions include installations, virtual realities and images in novel formats.
Kultur & festdage is Gentofte Municipality's annual four-day cultural festival and takes place in June.
Green Spaces
Hundesømosen also offers varied conditions for recreation, play and nature experiences. The western part of Hundesømosen is designated as a natural forest.
