Toila: Beach, Oru Park and Coastal Trails

Toila combines the coast of the Gulf of Finland with a varied landscape of parks and cliffs. Depending on your interests, the area can be explored via the narrow beach, trails along the Baltic Klint, Oru Park, or historical and virtual insights into Oru Manor.

Beach, River Mouth and Oru Park

Toila Beach lies on the Gulf of Finland at the mouth of the Pühajõgi River. A narrow strip of sand there is lined with flat boulders. Toila Harbour is also located at the mouth of the Pühajõgi. The beach can be reached through Oru Park, allowing you to combine it with a visit to the park. There is a beach volleyball court and a trampoline for children on site.

Oru Park lies in the valley of the Pühajõgi River, at the mouth of Klint Bay, on a sandstone cliff. Its 75-hectare area is home to 258 different species, varieties or forms of trees and shrubs. Oru Park forms the Oru Park Landscape Protection Area. Those wishing to choose between the coast and a protected park landscape will find two clearly distinct sides of the same destination here: the open seashore and an extensive park criss-crossed by paths.

Trails Along the Cliff and Through the Park

The well-signposted and well-maintained Oru Park is suitable for walks. The Green energy trail begins above Hõbeallika Spring. Visitors can also explore the Hõbeallika (Silver Spring) Cave in the park. This means that the park landscape leads not only to viewpoints and trails, but also to a specific natural attraction.

For longer hikes, the Toila-Martsa hiking trail begins in the settlement of Toila. It offers two options of different lengths: a 3.2 km Toila loop and a longer 6.5 km route. The trail runs along the Baltic Klint, both at the top of the cliff edge and below it along the seashore. The elevated cliff perspective therefore alternates with the route below the cliff edge, without confusing the two trail lengths.

For local orientation, the intersection of Mere puiestee and Rannatee Street is a prominent reference point. A bus stop and a car park are located on the left there.

Palace History and a Virtual Journey Through Time

Oru Park and the magnificent palace in the valley of the Pühajõgi River were built by Grigori Jelissejev. In 1935, three Estonian industrialists bought the palace and park and gave both to President Päts for use as a summer residence. The history of the place is therefore just as much part of a visit as its landscape and coast.

At VR Toila 1938, visitors can rent a VR headset and see Oru Manor brought back to life. The experience includes three different journeys. Those interested in Toila's historical dimension as well as its walks and coastal trails thus gain their own way of accessing the site's past.
