Errindlev between Harbor, Dike and Local History

Errindlev connects the coast of southern Lolland with a preserved village structure, traces of cultural history and a harbor nearby. This makes the landscape, cycling, maritime history and an unusually multifaceted village center the key points of interest for orientation.

Dike and Cycling Route

On Lolland, a 63 km-long dike runs along the entire coast of southern Lolland, from Nakskov in the west to Errindlev in the east. The marked 37 km-long “Vilde heste” cycling route also passes through Errindlev. Together, these features make the landscape and cycling clear focal points for visitors who want to plan their stay actively while remaining connected to the local area.

Errindlev Harbor: Maritime History and Routes

Errindlev Harbor is located near Errindlev, directly on the “Naturlandet rundt” adventure route. The harbor was built in 1907 with government support as a replacement for the harbor at Bjernæs, which had disappeared due to land-reclamation work in the 1870s. Errindlev Harbor has a large shelter for five people and a spacious campsite for 15 people. The harbor also offers opportunities for fishing and recreational sailing.

Cultural Environment at the Harbor

The cultural environment around Errindlev Harbor has first-priority status due to the dike, the harbor and the architectural style. Thus, the harbor is not only about use of the waterfront, but also about the connection between landscape, architectural culture and regional history.

Church and Village Structure

Errindlev Church stands in the middle of Errindlev on a hill that slopes down in all directions. The village has a preserved structure. The church consists of a nave and chancel from the Romanesque period, a Gothic chancel extension and a tower from the Reformation period.

In 1935, a memorial stone for the theologian Niels Hemmingsen was erected in the church square at the initiative of the Lolland-Falsters Historiske Samfund. Hemmingsen was born in 1513; according to uncertain tradition, his birthplace was in Errindlev or the surrounding area.

Dairy, Chairs and Cheese

The former cooperative dairy building at Errindlevvej 34 B is a listed building. The Stolemuseet in Errindlev Dairy displays around 1,400 chairs dating from 1850 to the present day. At Errindlev Dairy, visitors can also buy cheese to take away from a cheese shop.

Studehave and Practical Orientation

Errindlev Studehave contains a protected prehistoric burial mound. It is also home to two unusual stone settings consisting of circles of large stones with paved areas. Visitors can stock up on supplies at the local grocer in Errindlev.

When you consider Errindlev according to your interests, you will encounter several distinct facets: the long dike and cycling route, the harbor with its maritime opportunities, the architectural history of the church, the dairy with its chair collection, and the prehistoric traces in Studehave.
