Fårbo between Fårbosjön and the Ostkustleden Trail

Fårbo combines a bathing area on Fårbosjön with an extensive hiking trail, a lit running track and historical traces around Fårebo. This makes the area suitable for a variety of holiday activities: you can relax by the water, choose a longer stage of the Ostkustleden Trail, take in the landscape southeast of the village or explore the history of the manor house and the former estate. For regional orientation, Fårbo is located on the E22, about 15 kilometres north of Oskarshamn. Thus, orientation in and around Fårbo includes a bathing area, short exercise routes in the village and a much longer hiking trail.

Water and exercise around Fårbosjön

The bathing area at Fårbosjön has a sandy beach and a bathing jetty. It also includes a barbecue area, a partner swing and a diving tower. The bathing area is located on Fårbosjön, and the Ostkustleden Trail also leads to Fårbosjön; the beach, jetty and hiking trail therefore represent different ways of spending time by the lake.

The Ostkustleden Trail can be experienced in individual sections. The trail is divided into eight sections; you can start at any point and also end the hike at any point. The route is marked in yellow and orange. Alongside its length, the marking and division into eight sections give the long trail its own structure. The Ostkustleden Trail crosses the E22 and leads to Fårbosjön, with its beautiful bathing beaches. A hike therefore does not have to cover the entire route, but can focus on a selected section. This provides two routes of different lengths for exercise: the 2.4-kilometre lit running track in the village and the approximately 160-kilometre Ostkustleden Trail.

Ridge landscape and prehistoric traces

From Fårbo, the Tuna-Fårboåsen forms a high, distinctive ridge in a south-easterly direction. There are larger prehistoric stone mounds on the Tuna-Fårboåsen and to the west of it. The prehistoric stone mounds are therefore located not only on the ridge itself, but also to the west of it. In addition to the lake and the hiking trail, this adds another aspect to the landscape. Those who enjoy combining natural and cultural themes will find two different perspectives on the same surroundings here.

Fårebo säteri and historic buildings

Another focal point is the manor house at Fårebo. The manor house at Fårebo was built in 1714 and retains its 19th-century appearance. At the entrance to Fårebo säteri, the preserved square storehouses with pyramid roofs from the 17th-century estate also stand. The manor house and storehouses add a clear historical accent alongside the natural experiences at Fårbosjön and on the Ostkustleden Trail.
