Hultsfred: Music History, Hiking Trails and Lakes

A trail approximately 2 km long with 24 information panels leads around Hultsfreds Slätt. Slätt was an important military training ground and is connected with the narrative worlds of Vilhelm Moberg and Astrid Lindgren.

History and Culture

The former provisions storehouse at Hultsfreds Slätt, which the soldiers called “Fläskförrådet”, now houses the “Rätt & Slätt” exhibition about life on Slätt.

The Hultsfreds-Hus Museum displays offices with drafting tables and office machines from the 1940s to the 1980s. The exhibition also includes house models, house catalogues, pictures and drawings relating to the history of Hultsfreds-Hus.

Svenskt Rockarkiv is a music archive and an association whose aim is to collect the history of Swedish popular music. The archive’s complete collection of materials can be viewed at the Svenskt Rockarkiv premises in Hultsfred. “Home Sweet Hultsfred” explores the history of the Rockparty association and the Hultsfred Festival, and includes pictures, films, posters and anecdotes from the period when the Hultsfred Festival was at the height of its significance in Sweden.

Vemod keramik has a shop, showroom and classroom in the Blåklinten building on Norra Oskarsgatan in Hultsfred. Vemod keramik also accepts enquiries for introductory ceramics courses. The Mat restaurant in Hultsfred serves Swedish-style home cooking every day, prepared from scratch.

Trails by the Lake and Festival Site

Hultsfred – The Walk consists of approximately 40 physical signs that form a circular route from the Klubben venue. The physical circular route is located by Lake Hulingen at the historic festival site in Hultsfred. The “Hultsfred – The Walk” app offers music, film clips, facts and experiences using augmented reality technology that can be experienced on site in Hultsfred.

Hiking

Lönnebergaleden includes one section from Hästhagsgölen to Hultsfred and another section from Hultsfred to Lönneberga. Along Lönnebergaleden, there are historic environments and archaeological remains. The route crosses the northern part of Hultsfred Municipality and connects Ostkustleden with Sevedeleden.

Cycling Routes and Narrow-Gauge Railway

Hultsfred is the southern terminus of a narrow-gauge railway line. The railbike tour on this narrow-gauge railway starts in Hultsfred and covers 11.5 km each way towards the Målilla sanatorium.

The railbike route passes through Ödhult, approximately 5 km from Hultsfred, where it includes a rest area with a coffee table, rubbish bin and ball court for children. It crosses Lake Hesjön and follows its shore near Målilla.

Hultsfred Gravel is a 73.4 km cycling loop that follows pleasant roads southwards along numerous lakes. Hulingen Gravel runs around Lake Hulingen in Hultsfred on gravel paths through several nature reserves and along lakes.

In the wider region around Hultsfred lies Hulingsryd, a municipal nature reserve in Hultsfred Municipality with a varied landscape and numerous different habitats.
