Dovilai: Hotels and Accommodation

Dovilai Hillfort is hidden in a forest on the right bank of the Minija River. It can be reached from Dovilai by following the road signs. The elongated, narrow summit area measures 110 × 20–25 metres, and the steep slopes are about 9 metres high. A ditch was dug at the eastern edge of the summit area; an anti-tank ditch with an embankment extends to the lower slopes. At the end of 1944, Dovilai Hillfort was incorporated into the defence system of Klaipėda. In autumn 2017, 100 oak saplings were planted in Dovilai.

Culture and Recreation

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Dovilai was built in 1862. The three-nave building has a hexagonal apse and Neo-Gothic features. The sculpture hill “Wheel of the Passage of Time in Dovilai” comprises twelve sculptures dedicated to the twelve months. The Klaipėda District Ethnocultural Centre is housed in one of the few surviving old buildings in Dovilai, offers guided tours and organises exhibitions.

Dovilų karjerai is a recreation area for all seasons. It has a pontoon pier and a play and exercise area for children; swimming is also possible here. A pine forest next to Dovilų karjerai offers opportunities for walking. Lake Dovilai is located on the site of a former gravel quarry. There is a sandy beach on its southern shore that is suitable for swimming; beach volleyball can also be played on the southern beach.

Cycling Route

The tourist cycling route “Pavyk pajūrio vėją” passes through Dovilai and can be followed as far as Liepāja.
