Agluonėnai: Hotels and Accommodation

Agluonėnai lies on the banks of the Agluona stream and is a former typical village of Lithuania Minor, first mentioned in 1540.

History and Culture

The ethnographic sodyba of Agluonėnai is an authentic homestead dating from the late 19th to the early 20th century. Visitors can learn about historical everyday life, traditional crafts, the architecture of the Lietuvininkai in Lithuania Minor, and regional customs. At the same time, the sodyba is one of the few surviving examples of the wooden architecture of Lithuania Minor and preserves an authentic ensemble of buildings, courtyards, greenery, and decorative elements.

The J. Genys Windmill Exhibition in Agluonėnai invites children, school students, and adults to take part in educational activities. It interactively presents the history of windmills, the traditional culture of grain milling, and the heritage of Lithuania Minor.

In the Lietuvininkai Oak Grove stands a monument created by J. Čepas and artists from the Klaipėda region in memory of the inhabitants of Lithuania Minor, the Lietuvininkai. It consists of an arch and an oak-leaf-shaped grave sculpture. During a plein-air event held in the same year, additional krikštai were created in memory of R. Kant, K. Donelaitis, M. Mažvydas, L. Rėza, Vydūnas, and I. Simonaitytė.

Park and Language Trail

Agluonėnai Park was established as a village recreation area after a dam was built on the Agluona River in 1988. Traditional Joninės celebrations take place in the park; on national and other holidays, a fire altar is lit there, and the folklore ensemble “Agluona” sings Lithuanian and Lithuanian Minor folk songs.

The “Kalbos kelias” language trail comprises 25 objects and begins in Agluonėnai Park at the monument to the Lietuvininkai and at the “Time Snail,” with memorial signs commemorating people and events. Through the surroundings of Agluonėnai and Dovilai, it is described as an easy route 38 km long, taking approximately three hours; the trail includes sections on asphalt, gravel roads, and forest paths.

At the entrances to Agluonėnai Park is a fish pass for salmon, built in 1988 and described as the first and longest in the country.

The Grambaviškių Kalnas hill is located in the vicinity of Agluonėnai.

In the wider regional surroundings of Agluonėnai are the island of Sala Kiaulės Nugara, the historic Memel Lutheran Church, the island of Zingelinės Sala, and the Eumo Kalnai hill group.
