Preila is a settlement on the Curonian Spit in Lithuania and belongs to the municipality of Neringa. The settlement is located directly on the shore of the Curonian Lagoon.

Landscape

Several notable landscape features are located around Preila: Biržtvyno Kyšulys is a cape, and Zingelinės Sala is an island. The hills of Preilos Kalnas and Medžių Būdos Kalnas are also located in the surrounding area.

History and culture

The ruins of Karvaičiai are located in the vicinity of Preila. Preila was established around 1850 through the settlement of Curonian Spit fishing families from Neegeln and Karwaiten. The villages of Neegeln and Karwaiten, located near Preila, were buried under the sand of migrating dunes; toward the end of the 19th century, the sand was stabilized through planting.

Preila is located on the old postal road. Nida is 10 km away, and Klaipėda is approximately 40 km away.
