Stavenhagen: Hotels and Accommodation

Culture

The Fritz Reuter Cycle Route passes through the Stavenhagen planning area: from Jürgenstorf via Pribbenow to the market square of the town of Reuter and the Fritz Reuter Literature Museum, then onward towards Gülzow. The museum is housed in the former town hall on the market square and preserves manuscripts, documents, period objects, and a specialist library with around 15,000 volumes. An exhibition explores Fritz Reuter’s life, work, and influence, including the development of Low German and the reception of his works.

In a second building, a permanent exhibition presents the life and work of the painter and illustrator Ernst Lübbert; it displays paintings from the museum’s collection and loans. Visitors can use audio and film examples, computer stations, and a film room with adaptations of Fritz Reuter’s works. Five children’s stations are called “för mi”; the museum also has a lift for wheelchair users.

Stavenhagen Town Church was built in the 18th century: construction of the present building began in 1774, it was consecrated in 1782, and the tower was completed in 1790. Stavenhagen’s old castle is now a civic and administrative center and is accompanied by a well-maintained park. The Reuter graves are designated as a sight in Stavenhagen.

Landscape

The hills of Voßbarg and Tannenberg, as well as Ivenack Animal Park, are located in the immediate vicinity of Stavenhagen. The surrounding area includes the Gerichtsberg hill, Pflaumenberg hill, and the Wildberg ruins. Kittendorf village church is located farther afield.

The wider regional surroundings of Stavenhagen include Schlitz Castle and Schwenzin Palace. The Mecklenburg Switzerland and Lake Kummerow Nature Park is characterized by hills, fields, forests, wetlands, lakes, small villages, and recurring birdlife.

Stavenhagen Forest Pool is a heated outdoor swimming pool; the water is usually around 26 °C.

Cycling and Hiking

Stavenhagen is integrated into a network of cycling and hiking trails. Along its route, the European long-distance hiking trail E9a connects Basedow, Gielow, Gülzow Forest, Pribbenow, Stavenhagen, Ivenack Animal Park, Weitendorf, and Grischow, continuing towards Lake Kastorf.
