The area around Lake Kastorf, which is associated with Wildberg, features forests as well as cycling and walking trails. The path along Lake Kastorf leads into the Wildberg Forest. The remaining bodies of water around Lake Kastorf have become a refuge for rare birds; the lake is considered an otter habitat.

On Site

The bathing area associated with Wildberg is located at Lake Kastorf. The shoreline section of the Wildberg bathing area is 180 meters long. In summer, the lake offers a local opportunity for swimming and cooling off. The bathing area includes a playground, a fire pit, and a bathing jetty. Entering an island in Lake Kastorf is prohibited for reasons of nature conservation. Sailing and motorboating are considered not possible at the Wildberg bathing area.

The Ohm bakery in Wildberg is a place for coffee and cake. During their stay, visitors can watch the baker at work on a screen.

History and Culture

Remains of three former Slavic fortifications dating from the 7th to the 12th century have been preserved in the area of Lake Kastorf. In the vicinity of Wildberg, the remains of the three-part Slavic fortification of Wildberg are located at Lake Kastorf; their age is estimated at 1,000 to 1,300 years. Two brick churches built in the 13th century have been preserved in Wildberg and Wolkow.

The documentary film “At the End of the Milky Way” was filmed in Wischershausen in 2013.

Wildberg is a municipality in the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte district of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
