Krakow am See lies on the western shore of the northern part of Lake Krakow, which is used for tourism. Cycling, Trails and Nature
The international Berlin–Copenhagen Cycle Route passes through Krakow am See and the surrounding area. This makes the town a stop along the long-distance route for cycle tourists. Another way to experience the lake landscape is the Reuters Paradiesgartenweg: several viewpoints offer views of the Lake Krakow landscape. There are rest stops and bathing spots along the route. Views, places to rest and time at a bathing spot are among the route’s described features.
The Kurwald forest lies northeast of Krakow am See, a few metres from the old town, and covers 18 hectares. It can be accessed via two entrance areas. Visitors and local residents use it for relaxing walks, hiking and jogging, cycling tours, and as a Nordic walking route. Those wishing to include different forms of exercise in their trip will find several ways to enjoy this woodland area.
Lake Krakow on the Water
In the immediate vicinity of the destination, you can rent rowing boats, motorboats of up to 10 hp, canoes and pedal boats for independent trips on Lake Krakow. Guided canoe tours can also be booked. This gives you a choice between independent boating trips and guided tours. Which one you choose depends on whether you prefer to go out on your own or book a guided canoe tour.
Synagogue and Book Printing Museum
The Old Synagogue in Krakow am See is one of the few surviving synagogues in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Following extensive restoration work in accordance with historic preservation principles, it was opened to the public in 1995. It is accessible via a ramp for visitors with limited mobility. The site therefore brings together the history of the synagogue and an explicitly stated access option.
The Old School houses the book printing museum, an interactive museum dedicated to the art of book printing. It is considered unique among museums in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Group tours and typesetting and printing courses are available by telephone reservation, sometimes outside regular opening hours. The ground floor of the Old School, which houses the book printing museum and library, is accessible to visitors with limited mobility, including wheelchair users and people using walking frames. Those interested in book printing can choose between a museum visit, a group tour and a typesetting and printing course; telephone reservations are important for tours and courses.
An August Event
The traditional Krakow Fishermen’s Festival takes place every year on the third weekend in August. If you would like to plan your visit around this recurring event, this weekend is a clearly specified date in the town’s annual calendar.
