Krakow am See: Hotels and Accommodations

Krakow am See is located in the south of the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, north of the Mecklenburg Lake District and on the northwestern shore of Lake Krakow. The town is situated approximately 18 kilometres south of Güstrow.

Landscape

Lake Krakow is highly indented and has numerous bays and islands. Around 80 percent of its area lies within the municipal boundaries of Krakow am See. In the surrounding area, Borgwall, Küche, Liepse and Steinwerder are considered islands.

The southern part of Lake Krakow, as well as the nearby lakes Alter Dorfsee, Bossower See, Derliner See, Langsee and Schwarzer See, are part of the Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heide Nature Park.

Character of the Town

Since 2000, Krakow am See has been a state-recognized climatic spa.

History and Culture

The Jewish cemetery in Krakow am See was established in 1821, damaged during the November pogrom of 1938 and restored in 1950. The synagogue was built in 1866 and is considered one of the few Jewish houses of worship in Mecklenburg to have survived the destruction of 1938.

In the wider surrounding region, Güstrow Castle is classified as a palace, Burg Schlitz as a castle, the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Wildlife Park as a zoo and Dornbusch as an ancient site.
