The Roggendorf Moor borders the Roggendorf settlement and covers approximately 240 hectares. As part of its renaturalization, the Bek stream was relocated to the edge of the moor.
Nature
Roggendorf is located in the Schaalsee Biosphere Reserve. Goldensee is an important resting and overnighting area for waterbirds. It is also part of the hunting grounds of white-tailed eagles and provides a habitat for otters.
Culture and History
Roggendorf Church is a medieval fieldstone church dating from the 13th century. It contains a High Gothic carved altar and the southernmost votive ship in the Baltic Sea region.
Roggendorf Castle was probably built around 1895. The landscaped park belonging to the castle is open to the public. It includes a fieldstone grotto dating from 1891 and is known for its sandstone sculptures.
In the Breesen district, the farm museum houses a café and a collection of historic agricultural machinery and household objects. Nearby, Bauernstube Breesen serves homemade cake in its café.
