Cramonshagen: Hotels and Accommodation
Cramonshagen is situated on the Stepenitz glacial valley and Lake Cramoner. Fed by the Stepenitz, the lake belongs to the Stepenitztal nature conservation area; the bathing area in Cramonshagen, with its well-maintained sunbathing lawn and jetty, gives the village a clear connection to the water.
Nature and Water
The landscape around Cramonshagen includes old oak, beech and willow trees. Numerous hiking trails are available around the village. In summer, Lake Cramoner is considered an alternative to the Baltic Sea beach in Cramonshagen.
History and Culture
Cramon is considered one of the oldest villages east of the Elbe; the village was first documented in 1178. Based on an analysis of the wood used in its construction, the present-day Cramon village church is dated to 1414. Its almost free-standing 19th-century bell tower was built separately from the nave in 1844 in order to preserve the tracery of the medieval west gable.
Cramon village church preserves the bowl of a granite baptismal font dating from the 13th century, a tombstone dated to 1400, and a Friese organ from 1879, which was restored in 1966. During the annual St. John's Festival in Cramon, the barn, bakehouse, rectory garden and church are used as event venues. The programme includes an art exhibition in the barn and fresh bread from the bakehouse.
