Zickhusen: Hotels and Accommodation
Zickhusen is home to one of the few Neoclassical sacred buildings belonging to the Evangelical Church in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The church was built between 1824 and 1827 on behalf of the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg and consecrated on October 10, 1830.
Culture and History
The building is a hall church with a semicircular chancel and has a tower with a bell and a gilded cross. It replaced a 16th-century chapel that stood next to the village pond.
The interior features a painted coffered ceiling; most of the furnishings still date from the time of construction. The organ was built by Marcus Runge in 1910, while the altarpiece was painted by Suhrland, the court painter of Ludwigslust.
The former chief forester’s lodge and the Zickhusen estate complex form an almost unchanged architectural ensemble. Zickhusen Estate belonged to the noble family of the same name in the 15th century before being sold to the Mecklenburg ducal house.
The church continues to serve the congregation for worship; the tradition of musical and other cultural events is to be continued.
Cycling
As part of the cycle path construction, the parking area opposite the Schwarzer See was expanded. The cycle path connection in Zickhusen is considered an important hub for bicycle tours.
