Nesow between local history and trails

Anyone wishing to weigh local history against active trails when traveling to Nesow will find both perspectives in the village: An information board commemorates the former refugee camp, while an approximately 26 km circular tour through the terminal moraine landscape leads via Dorf Nesow and Nesow. In addition, there are two different hiking trails that include Nesow in their respective routes. Post-war history in the village

After the Second World War, up to 4,000 resettlers lived temporarily in the quarantine camp in Nesow, most of them Catholic refugees from northern Bohemia and Silesia. The camp existed from 1946 into the 1970s. An information board in the village commemorates the former refugee camp. Here, you will find a clearly defined historical focus: It concerns the post-war period, resettlement, and the history of the people who lived in the camp temporarily. The historical trace remains tied to Nesow itself.

The approximately 26 km circular tour through the terminal moraine landscape leads via Dorf Nesow and Nesow. Hiking trails connected with Nesow

Two trails also pass through Nesow. The Nonnenweg trail from Rehna to Zarrentin passes Gutshaus Nesow and then continues through the village of Nesow. The Mönch-Ernestus hiking trail from Ratzeburg to Rehna passes through the village of Nesow. The two trails therefore differ in the directions of their routes: Rehna and Zarrentin belong to the course of the Nonnenweg, while Ratzeburg and Rehna belong to the course of the Mönch-Ernestus hiking trail. Cycle path between Rehna and Nesow

There is also a cycle path between Rehna and Nesow. The Schwerin Road Construction Authority is planning its renovation. The renovation is to be understood as a planned project, not as a statement about a condition that has already been completed. Directions to the former camp

A field track branches off toward the former Nesow camp approximately 100 meters after crossing the B 104. The approximate distance adds a spatial reference to the local history without turning the figure into an exact measurement. The order of events at the B 104 is important for orientation: First, the road is crossed; afterward, the turnoff is approximately 100 meters away. The stated distance refers to the distance to the turnoff, not to the further course of the field track.
