Roduchelstorf: Hotels and Accommodation

A former state border between Mecklenburg-Strelitz and Mecklenburg-Schwerin separated Rabensdorf and Roduchelstorf.

History and Architectural Heritage

Following complete restoration using the original building materials, the Rauchhaus still stands at its original location. The municipality highlights it as Mecklenburg’s oldest surviving cottager’s house, a smallholder’s house dating from 1616. Construction of a road between Lübeck and Schwerin began in 1849/50 and changed the road layouts and village landscapes along the route.

Landscape Features

The villages of Roduchelstorf, Rabensdorf and Cordshagen were naturally separated from one another by wet moorland and the Papenhorst forest. A preserved traditional field boundary known as a hedgerow extends across the fields and along remnants of the old trade route towards Rehna.

Archaeological Evidence

During construction of the A20 near Roduchelstorf, archaeologists found the remains of a settlement from the Roman Imperial period, dating to approximately AD 200. A partially preserved skeleton from the Slavic period was also found in a burial near Roduchelstorf.

Cycling Routes

The ADFC cycling route from Lübeck to Grevesmühlen continues via Cordshagen to Roduchelstorf. The Northwest Mecklenburg Tour is a multi-day route from Wismar to Schönberg. On the section before Roduchelstorf, the tour uses a paved cycle path along the B104; from Roduchelstorf towards Schönberg, it follows the cycle path alongside the B104 and crosses the A20 again.
