Gressow: Brick Church, Listed Monuments and Lake Tressow

Brick Church and Baroque Altar

The church in Gressow gives the village a clearly recognizable historical profile. In its present form, it is a typical brick church from the mid-14th century. The Baroque altar in Gressow Church was created by J. F. Wilde and made in 1718. This building brings a medieval brick form and a Baroque furnishing element together. The church thus combines a medieval structure with Baroque furnishings.

Church History and Places of Remembrance

During the Reformation, Thomas Aderpul was the first Lutheran preacher in the Klützer Winkel region. Tisa v. d. Schulenburg also designed a memorial site in Gressow Church. The Reformation is connected with the Klützer Winkel region, while the memorial site is connected with the church interior.

Its precise designation and specific location add a marker on the former road alignment to the village's historical points of reference.

Jassewitzer Busch, Lake and Wet Meadows

The Jassewitzer Busch is located in the vicinity of Gressow. It is a 200- to 250-year-old pollarded hornbeam woodland and one of the last remnants of this historical form of woodland management in Germany. The nearby Lake Tressow and wet meadows are also part of the FFH area “Jameler Wald, Tressower See und Moorsee” (DE 2133-302). The Jassewitzer Busch brings an old woodland type to the surrounding area; the lake and wet meadows belong to the FFH area.
