Hohen Wieschendorf between the beach, marina, and nature

Hohen Wieschendorf combines Baltic Sea beaches, maritime surroundings, and a varied coastal landscape. A narrow hiking trail runs directly along the beach or above the steep coast on the headland of Hohen Wieschendorf. Both options offer views across Wismar Bay, toward the island of Poel, and westward across Wohlenberger Wiek. The cliff coasts shape the western and northern parts of the Hohen Wieschendorf headland. As a result, the coast presents itself not only as a beach area but also as a landscape of steep coastline, views over the water, and narrow paths.

A salt marsh lies east of the landing stage. This area is closed off and is particularly well suited for birdwatching. During the summer season, mute swans, dabbling ducks, red-breasted mergansers, and gulls can be found in the shallow water north of the Hohen Wieschendorf headland. The marina in the protected area

Hohen Wieschendorf Marina is located in the middle of a Natura 2000 protected area. For planning purposes, it is important to note that the marina is closed from October 15 to April 15 to protect resting and overwintering birds and may not be entered during this period. From mid-April to mid-October, 100 berths as well as a crane and slipway facility are available. The coast and marina are therefore closely linked to seasonal nature conservation regulations here.

Estate history and maritime heritage

Hohen Wieschendorf is considered an old estate village. The estate in Hohen Wieschendorf was owned by the Bade family from 1778 to 1884; in addition, Hohen Wieschendorf itself was owned by the Bade family until 1912. Wilhelm Bade is associated with offering the first polar cruises by the end of the 19th century and organizing the first Northland and polar cruises to the Arctic. The manor house was owned by the Glantz family from 1912 to 1945.

The four-star DKB Pferdewoche Hohen Wieschendorf show-jumping tournament takes place at Erdbeerhof Glantz from May 27 to May 31. Every December, Erdbeerhof Glantz offers freshly sawn Christmas trees for sale as well as the opportunity to saw your own.

Active days and choosing the right location

Bades Huk Golfclub has an 18-hole championship course on a peninsula extending into the Baltic Sea. The cycle path at Eggerswiek begins in the center of Hohen Wieschendorf and is signposted toward Beckerwitz.

Hohen Wieschendorf has a marina, Bades Huk, a newly developed holiday apartment complex, and other holiday accommodations, and is developing into the main tourist destination of the municipality of Hohenkirchen.
