Wohlenberger Wiek: protected coast, surf zone and shallow water

The coast of the municipality of Hohenkirchen includes the Wohlenberger Wiek, a gently curved bay on the Mecklenburg Baltic coast. Much of the Wiek is protected as a nature reserve. The Hohenkirchen Nature Experience Station provides information about local natural conditions and the economic sectors associated with them, with particular emphasis on the tradition of coastal fishing. It serves as a contact point and starting point for various excursions. These include ornithological tours. School classes and youth groups can use the Nature Experience Station as a “classroom in nature” for biological and geological educational activities. Coastal fishing is the station’s maritime thematic focus, while the excursions and educational activities address additional nature-related topics.

Route to the Kaiser Wilhelm Viewpoint

The route to the Kaiser Wilhelm Viewpoint is around seven kilometres long and can be used for both cycling and hiking. The Kaiser Wilhelm Viewpoint is located on the Fierdsberg within the municipality of Hohenkirchen. The roughly seven kilometres provide a shared framework for cyclists and hikers. The approximate length leaves the choice between the two means of travel open, while the Fierdsberg is the fixed destination. The route therefore remains manageable in terms of distance without specifying either type of use.
