Hornstorf: Hotels and accommodations

Hornstorf is located about five kilometers from Wismar Bay. The village is home to Hornstorf’s oldest building, the village church of St. Laurentius. The church was built in the Gothic style and contains accommodation for pilgrims traveling along the Via Baltica.

Culture and history

Hornstorf was first mentioned in official records in 1282. Schwedenschanze is home to typical farmhouses that were built during the resettlement in the 1930s. A farmhouse at Schwedenschanze 3–11 in Hornstorf is listed as a heritage monument.

A fieldstone portal is listed at Hornstorf’s former cemetery. There is also a Harms grave dating from 1808 on Hornstorf Hauptstraße.

Transport and connections

The eastern bypass leads to the A20 and A14 motorways. From Hornstorf, it provides access to Wismar city center and Poel Island. When the Wismar–Rostock railway line opened in 1883, Hornstorf gained a railway connection. Regional trains from Schwerin or Rostock can once again take travelers to Hornstorf.

Cycle paths

A cycle path alongside the B105 leads to Benz/Kalsow. Cycle routes connecting in the direction of Poel Island are also described for the area. Cycle paths heading south extend as far as Schwerin. From Benz/Kalsow, cyclists can continue along the Baltic Sea Cycle Route toward Boltenhagen and Lübeck.
