Evershagen: Rostock district with its own architectural history

Also listed are the “Air” gable design at Fridtjof-Nansen-Straße 5a, the “Sun” gable design at Knud-Rasmussen-Straße 12 and the “Earth” gable design at Strindbergstraße 1.

Another important landmark is the district centre. It was built between 1971 and 1977 under the direction of Peter Baumbach and included an extensive programme of visual art. Art is therefore not merely a decorative addition to individual buildings, but part of the documented development of the neighbourhood. This historical perspective continues at the former Schutow exhibition grounds: the site belongs to the Evershagen district. In 1966, the Pavilion of Construction was built there as a hyperbolic paraboloid shell structure by Ulrich Müther, based on an architectural design by Erich Kaufmann. The pavilion should therefore be understood as a historical reference point of the former exhibition grounds.

Walking tours and district events

If you would like to get to know Evershagen not only through individual buildings but also through its local development, district walking tours on local architectural and art history take place regularly. In connection with Ronald Paris’s mural “On Human Responsibility” at the “Am Scharren” shopping centre, discussions about possibly recreating it at its original location have resumed. The annual “Picnic in the City Green” takes place in the park at Mühlenteich on Messestraße and offers an informative, active and relaxing afternoon for the whole family.
