Radegast between Village History and Cycling Routes

If you consider historic village culture and cycling stages together for a trip, Radegast offers two clearly distinguishable ways to explore it. The church and cemetery in Berendshagen, cultural events at the sports field and several routes provide you with specific themes for planning your day. This allows you to consider the architectural history, event venue and route separately and plan them as different travel interests.

Village History in Berendshagen

Radegast has been documented in records since 1224. The Radegast district also includes Berendshagen, Dolglas, Miekenhagen, Pustohl, Sophienholz and Steinhagen.

Berendshagen Church is a brick church; its construction is dated either to the 15th or the 13th century. A burial chapel is located in the cemetery next to the church. This means that several historical points of reference are concentrated in a small thematic area at this site.

The bell of Berendshagen Church was cast in 1893 and hangs in a separate bell frame on the cemetery grounds. In 2024, Berendshagen Church, its cemetery, the mausoleum and the war memorial were protected as heritage sites.

Restoration work on Berendshagen Church began after the television documentary “Village Churches in Need” drew attention to its structural deterioration. After the work was completed, the church was reconsecrated in 2002 with a large community festival.

Culture and Events

A sports facility with a stage is located in the Radegast district and is used for various cultural events. The Waldbühne at the Radegast sports field is also used for various cultural events; a village festival with an afternoon and evening programme had been announced there for 20 June 2026. Cycling Routes through Radegast

On the Manor House Circular Route, the route takes cyclists from Satow towards Radegast via Miekenhäger Weg. In Radegast, the Manor House Circular Route continues towards Miekenhagen and Horst before joining the Manor House Circular Route again.

On the “Satower Land” cycling tour, cyclists turn right onto Steinhäger Weg shortly before Radegast and follow it for approximately 3.3 kilometres. The tour leads via Radegast, Steinhagen and Rosenhagen to Gerdshagen. The approximate figure of 3.3 kilometres refers to following Steinhäger Weg. The approximately 3.3 kilometres on Steinhäger Weg can be taken into account when allocating time for this section of the tour.

Regional bus route 102 serves the stops Radegast, Radegast, Mosterei and Radegast, Neubau, as well as Berendshagen, in Radegast. If you organise your days according to your interests, you can consider the church and cemetery area, the cultural stage and the cycling routes as separate focal points.
