Coast, cliffs and protected landscape

Diedrichshagen Beach is part of the Stoltera Nature Reserve. Behind a dense coastal forest, the cliff edge drops almost vertically by up to 20 metres to a pristine natural beach that can be reached on foot via a small ravine. Colourful pebbles lie along the water's edge. The beach access and the edge of the forest define the same stretch of coast. The almost vertical cliff edge makes the difference in elevation between the dense forest and the shore immediately visible.

The landscape also includes the “Diedrichshäger Land” Landscape Protection Area. It covers around 353 hectares and lies within the cadastral districts of Diedrichshagen, sections 1 to 4, Warnemünde, section 1, and Groß Klein, section 1. Disused sand pits are located to the west and east of the Diedrichshagen landfill. They are important habitats for numerous rare and endangered plants and animals.

Circular trail between the Baltic Sea beach and coastal forest

Thalasso Therapy Trail 2, “Along the Baltic Sea Beach and Through the Seaside Resort of Diedrichshagen”, is a 4.7-kilometre circular hike through the seaside resort of Diedrichshagen. After about 1.5 kilometres, the trail leads via a staircase into the coastal forest of the Stoltera Nature Reserve. The 4.7-kilometre circular hike can be included in a day's itinerary as an independent coastal and forest trail. Along the route, the coastal edge and forest follow one another within the same trail. The beach access via the small ravine and the later staircase section are located at different points in the landscape. The circular route is therefore not limited to the water's edge; after the beach section, it also takes in the coastal forest.

Ten signposted Thalasso therapy trails

There are a total of ten signposted Thalasso therapy trails between Diedrichshagen and Markgrafenheide. They lead through the surf zone or the adjacent coastal forests. The selection therefore ranges from a route along the water to trails through the forest. Depending on the trail chosen, the focus is on the surf zone or the adjacent coastal forests.

Getting to the Thalasso therapy trail

Thalasso Therapy Trail 2 can be reached by bus routes 36 or 37 in the direction of Seebad Diedrichshagen, getting off at the “Rostock-Warnemünde Strand” stop. The stop is in the immediate vicinity of the start and finish of the hike. The start and finish of the circular hike are therefore located near this stop.

Seaside resort status and rural offerings

Diedrichshagen continues to hold the designation “State-Recognised Seaside Resort”. Its successful re-certification was confirmed on 4 August during an event in Warnemünde. Blohm Equestrian Centre in Diedrichshagen offers bookable riding lessons. The farm also has a farm shop.

Blohm Equestrian Centre's farm shop in Diedrichshagen offers fresh eggs, homemade jam, liver sausage, fresh soup hens and rabbits. It also sells fresh game from wild boar and roe deer, wild boar ham, potatoes and onions grown on the farm, as well as homemade egg liqueur.
