Blankensee is located in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. Obersee lake, which is suitable for swimming due to its water quality, lies about one kilometer from the village. Blankensee itself is surrounded by extensive forests, meadows, and fields.

Nature and Bodies of Water

The entire municipality of Blankensee is part of the Am Stettiner Haff Nature Park. The nature park is characterized by undeveloped lagoon coastline and meadows, the forests of the Ueckermünde Heath, the lowlands of the Uecker and Randow rivers, and the Brohmer Mountains.

Untersee lake is considered rich in fish and is suitable for fishing.

Cycling Routes and Overnight Accommodation

Cycling routes lead north, south, and east from Blankensee. The Oder-Neisse Cycle Route runs through the village; along its regional, predominantly paved, and flat route, it connects Löcknitz, Blankensee, and Ueckermünde. Blankensee offers overnight accommodation for cyclists using this route.

History and Art

The church in Blankensee is more than 500 years old. In 1732, it became the parish church under the patronage of the Stolzenburg estate. Its tower was added in 1777 and later received a copper roof and a gilded weathercock.

Blankensee village church has an eastern section dating from around 1500 and was extended westward in 1777. The KunstKiosk in Blankensee was created as part of an art project carried out in 2013.

Historic Path Through the Landscape

A hiking trail follows the route of a former narrow-gauge railway from the former Lenzen outlying estate to Rieth and features historic railway signs.
