Village History in Sassen and Pustow
Sassen is home to a 14th-century fieldstone church. It has a separate bell tower and an adjoining cemetery. Pustow is home to an octagonal chapel dating from the first half of the 18th century. The contrast in dates is clear: the church dates to the 14th century, while the chapel dates to the first half of the 18th century. The municipality is therefore home to two sacred buildings from different centuries.
The municipality also has a small castle, built in the last century. Between Sassen and Pustow, a historic farmhouse now serves as the Evangelical Sassen School Camp. The farmhouse offers a different perspective from the church and chapel: alongside its older architectural history, the building’s present-day use also takes center stage.
