Schönwalde: Hotels and Accommodation

Schönwalde is a municipality in Vorpommern-Greifswald, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Schönwalde is predominantly agricultural in character.

Nature

An approximately three-kilometre-long ridge begins east of Schönwalde and ends at Schloßberg. The remains of a medieval Slavic fortification are located on Schloßberg. The natural area also includes the protected area at Lake Darschkow, which serves as a refuge for numerous breeding birds and rare insect species. Thirty-five species of diurnal butterflies and three burnet moth species have been recorded there.

The protected area can be viewed from the field path bordering it to the west. Swimming is concentrated at a bathing area on the southern shore of the small lake. Fishing is restricted under the protected-area regulations because of sensitive breeding bird populations.

Culture

The linden avenue in Dargitz is highlighted as a local attraction. Dargitz Church is a medieval village church with a Baroque altar and also contains extensive frescoes from the 14th and 15th centuries. Stolzenburg Church houses a baptismal angel from the 18th century.

Cycling Routes

The Berlin–Usedom long-distance cycle route runs directly through the Vorpommern-Greifswald district. The connection between Berlin and Usedom leads through meadows and forests, past wildlife, lakes and rivers, as well as historic sites with old churches.

The Brohmer Berge–Randow Valley circular route leads through villages, meadows and forests before reaching Torgelow and the Ueckermünde Heath. The 205-kilometre cycling tour begins in Pasewalk and can be completed in stages over four days.

In the Brohmer and Helpter Berge cycling area, routes run through gentle hills, quiet forests and wide meadows, along streams, through marshy depressions and past lakes.

Oertzenhof and Strasburg are named as arrival stations for the Brohmer and Helpter Berge region.
