Risskov: Beach, Forest and Maritime Experiences

Risskov offers a coastal landscape where beach days, forest paths and maritime experiences lie close together. Bellevue Beach near the Risskov suburb is located about 4 km north of the centre of Aarhus. The sandy beach is characterised by very fine sand and very few stones in the water. This makes Risskov particularly appealing to travellers who do not want to limit their stay on the Baltic Sea to a single experience, but instead want to choose between swimming, activity and nature.

Beach and Swimming Spots

At the Åkrogen swimming spot, you can swim from a bathing jetty. Den Permanente offers a different format: the sea bath has a large communal area, a sandy beach, changing rooms, toilets and taps. The two examples represent different ways of experiencing the sea – once directly from a bathing jetty, and once in a clearly structured sea bath with shared facilities.

Riis Skov: Forest and Marked Running Routes

Riis Skov adds a pronounced nature and activity aspect. The forest covers about 80 hectares and is dominated by beech trees. There are two marked routes for runners: a red route of about 3.3 km and a yellow route of about 4.7 km. Both start at the outdoor fitness equipment in the south. The different route lengths help you plan according to the loop you want to take; at the same time, the shared starting point provides a clear reference point within the forest area.

Historical Traces in the Forest

Riis Skov also has a historical and unusual side. In the 19th century, the forest was used as a pleasure forest for the citizens of Aarhus and was open to the public. A memorial stone recalls another special feature: it stands at the spot where a meteorite fell. In this way, the forest combines an experience of nature with a specific piece of regional history and an astronomical reminder.
