Saksild – Beach, Cycling Route and Church History

At Saksild Beach, the character of a stay is first shaped by the water: soft, light sand meets shallow, clear water. Calm waves make the beach a place for swimming and playing – even for small children who are just beginning to explore the water. Saksild is therefore particularly interesting for travellers who want to combine the coast and days by the sea with cycling, nature and regional history.

Beach and practical information

At Saksild Beach, beach mats lead to the water and along the water’s edge; the car park is 50 metres away. The beach mats leading to the water and the distance to the car park represent two practical aspects of the same beach visit: the route to the shore and arriving by car. At the same time, particular focus is placed on bathing water quality: during the bathing season from 1 June to 1 September, ten samples are taken. This gives you concrete information about the water, the ground, the mats and the distance to the car park for planning your time at the beach.

Cycling around Saksild

Several routes also pass through and depart from Saksild for those travelling on two wheels. Kulturringen is a 540-kilometre cycling route in East Jutland that passes through Saksild. A cycle path also runs along Kulturringen from Kysing via Saksild to Odder. From Saksild, a detour to Rude leads via Rudevej; there is a cycle path along most of the route. Kulturringen thus provides a regional connection, while Rudevej and the route to Odder indicate further directions from Saksild. The different route details help you compare routes by length and direction without prescribing a particular stage.

Saksild Church as a historical focal point

Saksild Church dates from the middle of the 12th century. Its original chancel and original nave were built in the middle of the 12th century from large, roughly hewn fieldstones. Inside, a pulpit and an altarpiece from the 15th and 16th centuries respectively are among the church’s historical details. The church thus combines medieval structural fabric with later historical furnishings. In addition to the beach, Saksild therefore offers a clear starting point for cultural and historical excursions.

Local character and Saksild Folkeskov

The former dairy building in Saksild is home to GROFT, an organic bakery with delicatessen and shop. GROFT’s café serves croissants, sandwiches and coffee from Friday to Sunday. Seven habitat types are planned for Saksild Folkeskov: scrubland, shade forest, light forest, wetland, dry meadow, hazel scrub and areas of natural succession. The planned habitats include both woodland and open meadows and wetland areas; at the same time, development is explicitly left open. As an educational and awareness-raising forest, it is intended to give visitors insights into nature as it develops at its own pace.
