Sondrup Strand: Coastal Cliff, Fjord Routes and Views of Alrø

The coastal cliff, the views of Alrø, the Fjordminoen and the Cykelruten Horsens Fjord each offer different focal points for a stay. Nature observation, hiking and cycling can therefore be given separate consideration when planning a trip.

Coast with its own natural profile

The coastal cliff near Sondrup Strand is designated as the habitat nature type “coastal cliff/rock”. Among other plants, the rare Trekløft-Alant grows on the coastal cliff. Sondrup Strand offers direct views of Alrø. For nature observation, the rock formation, plant species and views can be considered different focal points. Depending on your interests, you can focus on the structure of the cliff, the Trekløft-Alant growing there or Alrø. The views of Alrø extend the natural setting beyond the cliff.

Hiking along Horsens Fjord

The Fjordminoen is a signposted, 59-kilometre hiking route around Horsens Fjord and passes Sondrup Strand. There are yellow-marked side trails associated with the Fjordminoen; a circular route is possible in Sondrup Bakker. The total length of 59 kilometres defines the route’s overall framework; the yellow-marked side trails and the circular route in Sondrup Bakker add local variations to its course. When planning a hike, an section near Sondrup Strand can therefore be the main focus without interpreting the total length as the length of a single local trail. The path near Sondrup Strand is generally in good condition, but it can be somewhat marshy at Møllebæk. When planning the hiking day, the section at Møllebæk can be considered separately, as its possible marshiness does not apply to the entire path near Sondrup Strand.

Cycling route and changing terrain

The Cykelruten Horsens Fjord is a signposted, 52-kilometre cycling route. In the area around Sondrup, the Cykelruten Horsens Fjord includes beach, plantations, forest, very hilly terrain and several impressive viewpoints. Thus, the coast, plantation and forest are found alongside very hilly terrain and several viewpoints. The 52 kilometres define the route’s overall framework. When planning the day, the different landscape elements can be considered separate focal points or combined over the course of a day’s cycling.
